Transient Stability Enhancement Through Individual Machine Equal Area Criterion Framework Using an Optimal Power Flow

Preventive control actions for enhancing the transient stability of power system ensures under a given contingency. Generation rescheduling through constrained optimal flow (TSC-OPF) is one widely adopted preventive scheme. This study reports an approach enhancement using global methods. The proposed uses individual machine equal area criterion framework (IMEAC), which direct time-domain analysis, to carry out two important functional aspects TSC-OPF methods: first, Kimbark curves (IMKC) are used perform analysis; second, IMKC around critical clearing time (CCT) identify most severely disturbed machines (MDM) Further, trajectories these MDMs utilized in forming reference constraints, at only particular step integration. In such manner, constraints modified each iteration TSC-OPF, so that they represent dynamic response efficiently, while operating condition improving iterations. Numerical examples demonstrate effectiveness and main properties approach.
